FORT DODGE, Iowa (AP) - A medical helicopter touched down in Fort Dodge to help about 30 children at a safety camp learn about air ambulances.

The Fort Dodge Messenger reports (https://bit.ly/1hISm9h ) the UnityPoint Life Flight helicopter landed at Duncombe Elementary School on Tuesday morning as part of the Fort Dodge Fire Department’s annual safety camp for children entering first and second grades.

Paramedic Ben Schloss gave children a tour of the copter, showing how it was like an ambulance, but with more lightweight equipment.

The children were able to climb into the helicopter and try on a safety harness.

The safety camp is continuing through the week with presentations by police and other emergency workers.
