HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - A man who shot a store clerk to death in East Hartford is facing a potential life prison sentence after being convicted of felony murder, manslaughter and robbery.

A Hartford Superior Court jury convicted 27-year-old Kezlyn Mendez of Hartford on Tuesday in the August 2012 killing of Luthfur “Belal” Tarafdar of Manchester. The Journal Inquirer reports (https://bit.ly/1l0NPQj ) that the jury also found Mendez not guilty of intentionally killing the victim.

Sentencing was scheduled for Aug. 12.

Police say Mendez killed Tarafdar during a robbery at the Circle H Food Mart on Burnside Avenue. Mendez signed a statement saying the gun went off by accident, and he said he was ordered to rob the store by a drug dealer to whom he owed $1,700.
