RENO, Nev. (AP) - Nevada Board of Regents member Ron Knecht (Nehkt) has won the Republican primary for state controller.

Knecht advances to the November election against Democratic state Assemblyman Andrew Martin, an accountant from Las Vegas who had no primary opponent Tuesday night.

Knecht, an economist and longtime conservative activist from Carson City, had the endorsement of the state GOP. He was ahead over Las Vegas accountant Barry Herr by a 2-to-1 margin Tuesday night with 80 percent of the precincts counted.

Current Nevada Controller Ken Wallin, a Democrat, was barred from running for re-election because of term limits .
