TACOMA, Wash. (AP) - A Pierce County juvenile court judge has found probable cause to detain a 16-year-old Tacoma teen who called 911 and said he killed his father.

Prosecutors on Wednesday had asked for more time to make a charging decision. They have until Friday to file charges.

The medical examiner’s office said Wednesday that 49-year-old Richard Salzman died of blunt force injuries to the head. His death was ruled a homicide.

Court documents say the teen called 911 Tuesday and said he had killed his father with a cane the previous Friday after his dad pushed him to the ground. The teen said he put his father’s body in a box in the yard at their home.

Investigators found a body in a wooden compost box.

Salzman’s wife reported him missing Saturday.
