WARWICK, R.I. (AP) - The president of the Rhode Island Airport Corporation says he is in final negotiations with two airlines that would offer flights from T.F. Green Airport to Europe.

The Providence Journal reports (https://bit.ly/1l7GSH5) that Kelly Fredericks briefed elected officials, business leaders and others on those negotiations on Tuesday at a stakeholders meeting.

Fredericks says both airlines would be new to the airport, and he is optimistic that deals can be finalized in the next few weeks.

Green already is equipped with a Federal Inspection Station that can handle customs and agricultural inspections for two flights at a time.

Fredericks said passenger traffic at the airport was down in the first quarter of the year compared to 2013, but blamed that on unusual factors, including a harsh winter.
