NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. (AP) - A crew from the United States Coast Guard rescued six people off a sinking boat off New Smyrna Beach.

The crew from Station Ponce De Leon Inlet received a mayday call Tuesday afternoon after the 20-foot Grady-White boat started taking on water.

Coast Guard spokeswoman Lauren Jorgensen told the Daytona Beach-News Journal (https://bit.ly/1xHFJ32 ) that a good Samaritan who also heard the call for help arrived shortly before the crew and tried to help the boaters.

The boaters told the Coast Guard a crack in the boat’s transom caused the flooding.

No injuries were reported and a commercial salvage company towed the boat to shore.
