FORT HOOD, Texas (AP) - Gov. Rick Perry is to join Fort Hood’s commander, Lt. Gen. Mark Milley, in a groundbreaking on a new center at Fort Hood for wounded warriors.

The Thursday groundbreaking at Fort Hood will begin construction on the $11 million Fort Hood Intrepid Spirit Center, one of nine centers the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund plans to treat service members suffering from the most severe forms of traumatic brain injury and post-traumatic stress disorder. Another is planned for Fort Bliss in West Texas.

The centers are satellite clinics to the National Intrepid Center of Excellence opened at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, in 2010. In 2007, the fund completed construction of the $55 million Center for the Intrepid physical rehabilitation center for the catastrophically disabled in San Antonio.
