ORMOND BEACH, Fla. (AP) - Florida wildlife officials say a young black bear is wandering in the Ormond Beach area.

Officials say the bear spotted by residents on Wednesday is likely the same one seen last week in nearby Holly Hill.

Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission spokesman Greg Workman told the Daytona Beach News-Journal (https://bit.ly/1kQqAqQ ) biologists have been tracking the bear through calls coming into the office. There is so much activity in the area that the bears are climbing trees, which is the normal instinct.

He says it’s the time of the year that female bears are kicking their yearlings out. So they are “wandering and trying to establish their own home ranges.”

This year the agency has had 236 calls about bears in Volusia County.

Residents are urged to keep garbage inside.
