MARIETTA, Ga. (AP) - Cobb County prosecutors say a former attorney has pleaded guilty to stealing money from clients.

Officials say 38-year-old Romin Vincent Alavi of Marietta pleaded guilty Wednesday to three counts of forgery and two counts of theft.

Authorities say Alavi accepted a personal injury settlement without his clients’ knowledge or permission. Prosecutors say Alavi forged the couple’s signature on the $25,000 settlement check and cashed it.

Prosecutors say in a separate case, Alavi took $20,000 from a client in a contractor dispute case but never filed a suit on the client’s behalf.

Alavi has been sentenced to 10 years and is ordered to serve two in prison. He’s also ordered to pay $45,000 in restitution and may not reinstate his Georgia law license or practice elsewhere during his sentence.
