FRESNO, Calif. (AP) - Fresno police say officers shot and killed a man as he stood over his brother with a knife.

Police Chief Jerry Dyer says the brothers, ages 22 and 25, were fighting in front of a home when officers arrived there around 10 p.m. Wednesday. Officers told the brothers to get on the ground.

Dyer says the older brother complied, but the younger brother refused. He says two officers ordered the younger brother to drop a knife he was holding and opened fire when he did not.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene. He has not been identified.
