INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - The Indiana Department of Natural Resources wants to hear from the public on grant funding priorities for improvements along Lake Michigan.

The Lake Michigan Coastal Program awards funds to local governments, regional and state agencies, colleges and universities, and nonprofit groups. Funds may be spent to improve public access or habitat, to acquire land, or for applied research and other projects.

Projects must be within the northern portions of Lake, Porter, and LaPorte counties.

A public input meeting will be held in Portage next Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.

Since 2001, the Coastal Grants Program has awarded more than $12 million.
