SEATTLE (AP) - Former Boston police commissioner Kathleen O’Toole is a step closer to becoming Seattle’s new police chief.

A committee of the Seattle City Council on Thursday recommended her confirmation. A vote of the full council is scheduled June 23.

O’Toole would be the first woman to lead the department and will oversee about 1,300 officers as she works to carry out a reform agreement under federal oversight.
