PITSFIELD, Mass. (AP) - A plan to replace the Tappan Zee Bridge in New York is turning into a boon for a Pittsfield company that plans on creating 100 jobs.

Unistress Corp. said Wednesday it has been awarded a $70 million contract to provide precast concrete deck panels for the new bridge in New York.

Unistress President Perri Petricca tells The Berkshire Eagle (https://bit.ly/TN8eN3 ) the company plans to invest more than $6 million to expand its facilities and hire more than 100 new workers, some as soon as the end of this month. The unemployment rate in Berkshire County is slightly higher that the state average.

The new $3.9 billion Tappan Zee Bridge will replace the current structure across the Hudson River, completed in 1955.
