WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) - A woman who was shot by her neighbor in a Wilmington apartment building says her son jumped in front of her when the man opened fire.

Forty-year-old Patricia Buckworth and her 19-year-old son, Roderick Buckworth, were shot on Tuesday evening. Both are expected to survive.

New Castle County police say the gunman was Patricia Buckworth’s ground-floor neighbor, 41-year-old Jason Brunson. He fatally shot himself after the attack.

Patricia Buckworth tells WCAU-TV (https://tinyurl.com/p95k3um ) that when the gunman burst into their apartment, her son pushed a dresser in front of the door and jumped in front of her.

Patricia says she had never interacted with Brunson and has no idea why he targeted them. She says her son had just come home from Wesley College in Dover, where he’s studying criminal justice.
