JERSEY CITY, N.J. (AP) - A New York City man died and four others were injured in an early morning accident on the New Jersey Turnpike near Jersey City.

New Jersey State Police say the accident happened around 6:16 Friday morning and involved three vehicles.

Trooper Jeffrey Flynn says 45-year-old Juan Mendoza of Brooklyn died at the scene. Authorities say Mendoza was a passenger in a Toyota that was struck from behind by a Lincoln Town Car emerging from the toll booth. The impact forced the Toyota through a cone median, where it was struck by another vehicle.

Police say the four other victims were taken to Jersey City Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

The accident occurred near exit 14C for Jersey City, which is near the approach to The Holland Tunnel into Manhattan.
