HAMPTON, N.H. (AP) - It must be close to the start of the annual sand sculpting competition at New Hampshire’s Hampton Beach: 250 tons of imported sand are being dropped at the beach Friday.

The competition itself runs from June 19 to 21.

Sculptors only use sand, water, and a few plastic or wooden forms to build their masterpieces. The forms are later removed.

The sculptors have a total of 24 hours over three days to complete their sculptures. Each gets a private plot and 10 tons of sand.
