KELSO, Wash. (AP) - A 41-year-old man was sentenced Thursday to 39 years in prison on an attempted murder conviction for shooting a man in Kelso.

Richard Flowers apologized in Cowlitz County Superior Court to shooting victim Travis Russell, saying he suffers from addictions and mental health problems.

The Daily News reports (https://bit.ly/1l8HFNP) Flowers and Russell were acquaintance. Flowers showed up at Russell’s house last October, pulled out a gun and told him to beg or pray because he was about to die.

Russell was shot in the head; another bullet pierced his lung. He survived by playing dead.
