ITHACA, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say they’re looking for a 23-year-old parolee who crashed his vehicle head-on into a car being driven by the head of an upstate New York police department.

Police tell the Ithaca Journal (https://ithacajr.nl/1sb9k4w ) that Ithaca Police Chief John Barber was driving an unmarked vehicle around 5:30 p.m. Thursday when he was hit by a vehicle that turned into his lane.

Officers say the driver, Christopher Rundt of Ithaca, apologized to Barber, then ran off as the police chief called 91. A woman riding with Rundt also fled the scene.

Police say Rundt may have been intoxicated. He’s on parole in New York state.

Barber was treated at the scene for minor injuries.
