ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) - An Anchorage jury has convicted a 26-year-old former soldier of murder in the December 2012 shooting death of his wife.

Jurors returned their verdict late Friday afternoon in the trial of David Lopez.

KTUU-TV reports (https://is.gd/AiSSNM ) that the jury found Lopez fatally shot his wife, Sara Lopez, after the state Office of Children’s Services took away the couple’s 2-year-old daughter.

Prosecutors said Lopez was angry that the agency took the child after Sara Lopez reported bruises on the little girl.

In a 911 call, Lopez reported shooting his wife.

The defense told jurors that Lopez confessed because he felt guilty that he did not stop his wife from killing herself.

KTUU says the defense declined comment on the verdict. Sentencing is set for Oct. 3.
