GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) - A Gainesville man is accused of stabbing a pit bull that got into a fight with his dog during an early morning walk.

The Gainesville Sun (https://bit.ly/1pRsDeW ) reports Daniel Brummett was walking his dog named Mama early Wednesday when they passed Brandon Smith, who was walking his dog.

A police report says Mama attacked the other dog and wouldn’t let go. Smith told police that as he tried to pull the dogs apart, Brummett pulled out a pocket knife and starting swinging it toward him before repeatedly stabbing Smith’s dog.

Police say Brummett chased after Smith and a man who stopped to help. Brummett picked up his dog and left.

Smith’s dog was euthanized due to its injuries.

Brummett faces multiple charges and remains in jail on $25,000 bail.
