MOSS POINT, Miss. (AP) - Moss Point Mayor Billy Broomfield tells The Mississippi Press (https://bit.ly/1hT53i6) that Police Chief Keith Davis has resigned.

Broomfield says Davis resigned Thursday.

Davis told WLOX TV (https://bit.ly/1lnLCxc) he wouldn’t talk publicly about his decision to leave until the resignation is officially accepted by city leaders. According to the letter, his last day on the job will be June 27, 2014.

Alderman Wayne Lennep said the resignation had not been presented to the board yet, but that he expected that to happen Tuesday night or a special meeting could be called.

Davis served as captain of the Criminal Investigations Division at the D’Iberville Police Department before taking on the role of chief in April of 2011.

Davis replaced former Chief Sheila Smallman, who was fired in March of 2011.
