WARSAW, Ind. (AP) - A man struck by a car while walking along a northern Indiana road has died from his injuries.

Authorities say 22-year-old Michael C. Keener of Warsaw was hit from behind by an SUV as he walked along a rural road in Kosciusko County west of Fort Wayne Wednesday. The Journal Gazette reports (https://bit.ly/1hTdKc7 ) that Keener was flown to Fort Wayne’s Lutheran Hospital in critical condition and died later that day.

The driver of the SUV told police he couldn’t see Keener but tried to swerve to miss him. His SUV hit a utility pole, but he wasn’t hurt.

The Allen County Coroner’s Office said Keener died of blunt-force trauma.

Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department Sgt. Chad Hill says Keener’s family told police he recently started walking in mornings and evenings.
