RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - An official working to get more Democrats elected to the North Carolina House this fall has been charged with driving while impaired and speeding.

Wake County court records show police cited 33-year-old Casey Wilkinson on Thursday. Wilkinson is director of the House Democratic Caucus. His next court appearance is set for August.

The records obtained Friday don’t provide details about what police say happened. Wilkinson didn’t respond to a phone call left at his office or an email Friday. The voice mail on his cell phone was full.

Wilkinson reports to House Minority Leader Larry Hall of Durham, who says Wilkinson still works for the caucus. Hall says the matter is under review to determine what actions are appropriate.
