FAIRBANKS, Alaska (AP) - A grand opening is planned Friday evening for a new recreation area in Fairbanks.

The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reports (https://is.gd/eNXcSS) the ceremony is planned from 5-8 p.m. at the Tanana (TAN’-uh-naw) Lakes Recreation Area at the end of South Cushman Street.

The 750-acre park cost the Fairbanks North Star Borough Parks and Recreation Department more than $3 million to build.

It includes a swimming beach covering nearly 5 acres, a picnic area, a boat launch with access to the Tanana River and lakes for both motorized and non-motorized uses.

There’s no admission fee to the park.
