STROUDSBURG, Pa. (AP) - A water park resort chain has landed in hot water for stenciling colorful chalk advertisements on sidewalks in two Pocono Mountains communities.

Officials say the Kalahari Resorts chain did not have permission to put the advertisements on sidewalks in Stroudsburg and East Stroudsburg.

Stroudsburg Borough Manager Cathryn Thomas tells the Pocono Record (https://bit.ly/1jofN2J ) that a borough council member noticed the sidewalk promotions last weekend and contacted Kalahari.

The chain agreed to pay up to $1,000 for the borough to pressure-wash the designs. A spokeswoman says they were done in a spirit of “fun and enthusiasm.”

East Stroudsburg officials say they are formulating plans to remove the ads.

Kalahari Resorts is building a $230 million water park complex in Pocono Manor. It also has resorts in Ohio and Wisconsin.
