JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) - The traditional Governor’s Family Picnics kick-off next month in Palmer.

Gov. Sean Parnell’s office, in a release, says the picnics have been held annually for more than a decade. They are put on with donations from Alaska businesses and volunteers. The picnics generally feature the governor, first lady and other administration members serving members of the public.

The first picnic is scheduled for the Alaska State Fairgrounds on July 11. That is followed by Anchorage on July 12, Fairbanks on July 20, Juneau on July 23 and Ketchikan on July 24.

Communities have had a chance to host a picnic since 2012. Ketchikan received the “traveling” picnic designation this year.
