LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - Lexington Mayor Jim Gray has met with University of Kentucky President Eli Capilouto to discuss the future of a proposed $351 million renovation of Rupp Arena and attached convention center.

The Lexington Herald-Leader (https://bit.ly/UzKMUd ) reports city and university offered few details of Thursday’s meeting. It came about three weeks after Capilouto wrote a letter withdrawing support for the arena and convention center project.

Gray spokeswoman Susan Straub says the meeting was positive and the mayor looks forward to continuing the conversation.

The project’s fate is at a critical juncture. Without UK’s support, it’s unclear if the project can move forward.

The project includes renovating Rupp Arena and moving and expanding the convention center to the west of the current complex. The finance plan calls for state, city, university and private money.
