ARCADIA, Calif. (AP) - Texas Ryano unleashed a furious late kick to overhaul 1-2 favorite Quotient and win the $58,000 feature by three-quarters of a length at Santa Anita on Friday.

Ridden for the first time by Joe Talamo, Texas Ryano ran 1 1/8 miles on the turf in 1:46.53 and paid $12.60, $3.80 and $3.

Quotient returned $2.20 and $2.10, while Life’s Journey was another 3 1/2 lengths back in third and paid $5 to show.

Texas Ryano was making just his third career start. He was last in the field of six, eight lengths off the lead passing the half-mile pole, and split horses four-wide turning for home.

The victory, worth $34,800, increased Texas Ryano’s career earnings to $71,880.
