PHOENIX (AP) - Authorities say a boy was saved from nearly drowning in a Phoenix swimming pool thanks to an alert neighbor.

KTVK-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1hQmGP8) the 3-year-old child somehow got out of a unit at the Palmera Apartments near 19th and Northern avenues around 3 a.m.

Police say the sound of the child splashing in the complex pool woke up a man in a nearby apartment.

They say the man went to investigate and found the toddler floating.

According to authorities, the man pulled the boy out and yelled for help.

Another resident administered CPR until firefighters arrived.

The boy was conscious and breathing while being taken to a hospital.

Police say they are investigating how the child made his way to the pool.
