HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) - The Police Department has formally added 16 officers to patrol the streets of Hattiesburg.

WDAM-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1oTODX4 ) the officers graduated from training this past week in ceremonies held at the Lake Terrace Convention Center.

Police Lt. Jon Traxler says the department’s strength rises to 111 officers with the addition of the new graduates.

The department is authorized for 140 officers. Officials hope to have another class of recruits in place by the end of December.
