HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - Two of the three Republicans hoping to become the party’s nominee for governor are appearing at a Hartford forum.

Both Senate Minority Leader John McKinney and Danbury Mayor Mark Boughton (BOW’-tuhn) agreed to appear Wednesday evening at the Hartford Public Library for a primary candidate forum. A campaign spokesman has confirmed that the party’s endorsed candidate, Greenwich businessman Tom Foley, will not attend the event.

Foley has not appeared at previous forums and debates with his fellow GOP candidates, saying he wanted to wait until after the party’s convention last month.

Boughton may learn next week whether his running mate, Shelton Mayor Mark Lauretti, submitted enough qualified signatures to appear on the Aug. 12 Republican primary ballot. Boughton is hoping to pool his funds with Lauretti to qualify for public campaign financing.
