PINEVILLE, La. (AP) - Louisiana College will add a computer lab by the beginning of the fall semester using grant funding from the Louisiana Board of Regents.

The Town Talk reported (https://townta.lk/1p1Dl19) the grant of more than $71,000 will be used to buy computers and software for the computer applications classroom in Cavanaugh Hall.

The lab will have 20 computer stations and chemistry-specific software designed to enhance computational chemistry capabilities.

It also will be made available for use by the biology, mathematics and computer science departments.

Installation of the lab coincides with construction of another lab - called the computational chemistry research lab - under separate 2013 grant funding from the Board of Regents.

The grant of almost $10,000 is targeted toward chemistry research using computational techniques.

Both facilities are expected to be fully operational on the Pineville campus by the end of 2014.

The college is pursuing certification with the American Chemistry Society.
