ATHENS, Ohio (AP) - An Ohio couple in their 90s are celebrating their 72nd wedding anniversary.

Charles and Opal Townsend live in the village of Buchtel (BOOK’-tuhl) in southeast Ohio. They got married June 10, 1942.

Charles says he didn’t have a car when they first started dating so the couple spent a lot of time at home. After he got a Model A Ford, he would play guitar and violin at square dances, and Opal would dance along.

Tuesday marked the couple’s 72nd anniversary, which they celebrated at Kimes Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Athens.

The Athens Messenger reports (https://bit.ly/1s2OIeI) that 90-year-old Opal moved there two years ago after being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. Ninety-two-year-old Charles followed a year later.

Charles shared the secret to his long, happy marriage: love and hard work.
