ATLANTA (AP) - Manager Mike Scioscia is attending the funeral for former pitcher Bob Welch and is missing the Angels’ game against the Braves.

Bench coach Dino Ebel is filling in as the manager for Saturday night’s game.

Welch, the 1990 AL Cy Young Award winner with the Oakland Athletics, died at 57 on Monday night at his Southern California home in Seal Beach. The funeral is being held in Arizona.

Welch pitched for the Dodgers from 1978-87, where he was Scioscia’s teammate.

Scioscia said baseball was “the one thing Bobby definitely loved.”
