WESTERN, N.Y. (AP) - Police say a body found in a central New York lake is believed to be that of a 32-year-old man who disappeared while trying to save his teenage stepson.

The Oneida County Sheriff’s Office tells local media that a patrol boat crew found the body early Sunday morning on Delta Lake, just north of Rome, New York. Deputies believe it’s that of 32-year-old William Cook of Camden, who was last seen on the lake on Memorial day.

Cook had jumped in to rescue his stepson, but started struggling himself. Neither wore life jackets. Another boater rescued the teenager.

An autopsy is planned to make a definite identification of the body.
