LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) - Louisiana State Police say a 24-year-old Florida woman whose SUV flipped into the Atchafalaya Basin has been booked with negligent homicide of a passenger.

Spokesman Jared Sandifer says Lois Rudd of Largo was released from a hospital Sunday and booked into the Iberville Parish Jail. He says charges include negligent homicide of 25-year-old Mina Bell, negligent injury of five children, and careless driving.

Rudd’s SUV hit a guardrail about 8 p.m. Friday on Interstate 10 and flipped over the side of the Atchafalaya Basin Bridge.

Sandifer says it appears the driver overcorrected, causing the SUV to roll on its side.

Sandifer says a 7-year-old child was in critical condition and the others were moderately injured.

Police said they had initially misspelled the driver’s first name as Louis and described her as a man in a news release Saturday.
