MORRIS, Ill. (AP) - Officials in Grundy County say a 3-year-old boy has drowned in a swimming pool in Morris.

Grundy County Coroner John Callahan says Liam Vaughn died Sunday afternoon after he was found in an above-ground pool. The (Joliet) Herald-News reports (https://bit.ly/1nfwXSO ) that preliminary reports indicate the boy had taken off his arm floats to eat. The coroner’s office says the boy apparently jumped back into the pool without the floats.

Callahan’s statement says that’s when Liam’s father realized the boy wasn’t by the food and “saw his son face down in the pool.”

The father jumped in to get his son and started CPR. Emergency responders took the boy to Morris Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The coroner’s office and Morris police are investigating.
