SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) - Springfield police say a 3-year-old girl found wandering the city streets in the early morning hours is being reunited with her family.

Lt. Rupert Daniel says a concerned citizen called to report the little girl walking alone in the Federal Court and Worthington Street area at approximately 5 a.m. Monday.

The woman stayed with the child until officers arrived.

The girl was taken to the hospital for evaluation but appears to be in good health.

Daniel tells The Republican (https://bit.ly/1nJxVIT ) her family contacted police shortly before 7 a.m. to report her missing. He says it appears as if she left her apartment through an unlocked door while her parents slept.

The state Department of Children and Families is investigating, and will interview the family and the child.
