DEARBORN, Mich. (AP) - Gov. Rick Snyder says Michigan is embracing diversity but more should be done to welcome immigrants as job creators.

The governor toured the Arab American National Museum in Dearborn on Monday, participating in a town hall-style event and meeting community leaders.

Snyder says immigration is among the top five things that make America a great country but says refugees continue to struggle. He says he asked the federal government for 50,000 work visas over five years in Detroit.

The Detroit News (https://bit.ly/1lK1j1I ) reports about 50 people attended, asking Snyder to ensure teachers are properly trained. Some also brought up discrimination against Arab-Americans and concerns he doesn’t have enough Arab-Americans on his staff.

Snyder says he’ll explore the issues.

Dearborn has large Arab and Muslim populations.
