CLEON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - Authorities investigating a vehicle fire in Manistee County say they found a body inside that was burned beyond recognition.

TV stations WPBN-WTOM (https://bit.ly/T2tQV0 ) say they arrived at the scene of a car fire about 2:30 a.m. Monday and say it exploded soon after. The car was in Cleon Township, about 50 miles southwest of Traverse City.

The sheriff’s department says a body was inside the car but was so badly burned that the victim was unrecognizable and the sex wasn’t immediately determinable.

Sheriff Dale Kowalkowski says an autopsy will take place in Grand Rapids and should help investigators discover what happened.

The vehicle had a Tennessee license plate, but deputies say information inside the vehicle indicates it came from another state.
