NAPOLEONVILLE, La. (AP) - State police say an 8-year-old child has died and two other children were injured when the vehicle they were riding in ran off the road and rolled over, causing all the occupants to be ejected.

Trooper Evan Harrell says a car driven by 26-year-old Brian Gilton, of Napoleonville, ran off La. Highway 1 Sunday night, struck a culvert and utility pole and overturned.

Harrell says Gilton and three children, ages 4, 5, and 8, were ejected. State police say no one in the car wore a seatbelt. Harrell says the 8-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.

Gilton is being treated at a Baton Rouge hospital. The surviving children were taken to Thibodaux Regional Hospital with minor injuries. Their names were not released.

The accident remains under investigation.
