CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - The Coast Guard is searching about 30 miles of the South Carolina coast after a boater reported seeing an empty vessel adrift.

The Coast Guard said a boater reported seeing a boat about 15 feet long shortly before 6 p.m. Sunday.

Coast Guard officials do not know whether the boat broke free from its mooring and drifted out to sea or if someone may have fallen overboard.

A Coast Guard Cutter and a helicopter crew were en route to the area Sunday evening where the boat was spotted.
