BRATTLEBORO, Vt. (AP) - The Vermont Agency of Commerce and Community Development is extending the deadline for grant applications for projects to soften the economic blow from the closure of the Vermont Yankee nuclear power plant.

The owners of Vermont Yankee agreed to pay $10 million over five years to fund economic development projects that would help Windham County after the plant closes.

The original deadline for the first round of grants was June 13. Now it has been pushed back to June 20.

The Brattleboro Reformer (https://bit.ly/1bI41RH) reports the commerce is responsible for designing guidelines for the application process and determining what projects are eligible for grants.

Vermont Yankee is scheduled to close at the end of the year.
