SOUTHAMPTON, N.Y. (AP) - A 6-year-odl girl was killed and a 10-year-old boy was critically injured while crossing the street on Long Island in separate incidents.

Suffolk County police say Tess Burstein was struck and killed around 11:30 a.m. Sunday by a Toyota Prius traveling on Blank Lane in Water Mill.

She was taken to a hospital where she was pronounced dead.

At 8:30 p.m. Saturday, police say John Johnson was struck by a car while crossing Montauk Highway in Lindenhurst.

He suffered a head injury and listed in critical condition.

The drivers of both vehicles were not injured.

Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks.

No further information was available. Police are investigating both accidents.
