HONOLULU (AP) - An inmate has escaped from the Oahu Community Correctional Center.

State Department of Public Safety spokeswoman Toni Schwartz says Daniel Skelton was missing from the 6 a.m. headcount on Monday.

Schwartz says Skelton was at the jail since June 4 for violating probation.

According to court records, Skelton was on probation for a burglary conviction.

Schwartz says it appears Skelton punched a hole through a shower area to get into the ceiling and onto the roof. She says he jumped down and got out through a “weak spot” in the fence.

The jail was under lockdown Monday morning, meaning inmates were not allowed to leave their cells.
