HAMILTON TOWNSHP, N.J. (AP) - Authorities say man who allegedly was driving drunk when he crashed into a police cruiser and injured an officer earlier this year has turned himself in.

David McAvaddy of Egg Harbor Township surrendered Monday to Hamilton Township police and was charged with assault by auto, drunken driving and reckless driving.

Authorities say the 41-year-old McAvaddy was driving on Route 40 in April when his allegedly crossed over the center line and struck the cruiser driven by Hamilton police officer Jim Longo. The officer is still recovering from the injuries he sustained in the collision.

Bail was set at $20,000 for McAvaddy. It’s not known if he has retained an attorney.
