BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - The North Dakota Game and Fish Department says it has paid more than $481,000 to counties in which it owns or leases land, $58,000 less than for the previous year.

The payments are in lieu of property taxes. The payments for 2013 ranged from less than $100 in Emmons and Griggs counties to more than $52,000 in Sheridan County.

The Game and Fish Department manages more than 200,000 acres for wildlife habitat and public hunting in 51 counties. The department does not own or manage any land in Traill or Renville counties.
