BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem says an Oklahoma paving company has been fined for doing work in North Dakota without a contractor’s license.

Stenehjem says company owner Sylvester Cooper of Spiro, Oklahoma, was fined $5,000 and ordered to repay $5,000 to a customer.

Stenehjem says Spiro has now obtained his contractor’s license.

Stenehjem says North Dakota gets an influx of paving companies that come to the state every summer looking for work. He says some are reputable companies but “many are fly-by-night operators who target rural communities, do poor quality work, and then flee the state before the complaints come in.”
