PHOENIX (AP) - A Phoenix man is in custody in connection with a fatal stabbing nearly 25 years ago.

Authorities say 58-year-old Cudellious Love is being held on suspicion of first-degree murder, sexual assault, burglary and kidnapping in the 1989 death of Laura Hunding.

They say DNA connected Love to the cold case.

Hunding was found by her landlord inside her unlocked apartment on July 17, 1989.

Phoenix police say Hunding had been stabbed in the chest and abdomen and sexually assaulted.

A kitchen drawer was found opened and a knife was missing from its sheath.

Evidence collected at the scene was sent to the crime lab for testing and DNA analysis.

Police interviewed Love last month and collected a DNA sample.

KPHO-TV reports Love was arrested last Friday after a DNA match.
