GAFFNEY, S.C. (AP) - A teen has drowned in the Broad River in Cherokee County.

Coroner Dennis Fowler said 18-year-old Berry Rashsan Palmer of Cowpens drowned Sunday while at the river with friends.

Fowler says the group was in the water about five miles north of Gaffney when Palmer was swinging from a rope suspended from a tree into the water. He failed to surface shortly after 7 p.m.

Several friends tried to pull the teen from the water but were unsuccessful. His body was found in about 20 feet of water.

Fowler pronounced Palmer dead at the scene. An autopsy is scheduled Tuesday.

Fowler says there is no indication of foul play.
